LLENN and pre-orders details in the very near future! M1851 Navy Tokyo Marui observes the 'Model Gun' market closely and as a result, it is releasing more and more legacy pistols. The new SAA. 45 Cavalry can certainly attest of this trend. While model guns (see trivia section below) can't fire and are only designed to reproduce the features of a particular pistol, rifle or revolver, Tokyo Marui's upcoming M1851 Navy is obviously an airsoft revolver and a such fire 0.2g BB just like any other airsoft pistol. What are model guns in Japan? In Japan, model guns are highly detailed, non-firing replicas of real firearms, designed to mimic the look, feel, and mechanical actions of the originals without the ability to fire. They replicate weight and markings precisely, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts in a country with strict firearm regulations. These safe, realistic replicas offer a legal alternative for firearm enthusiasts in Japan. However, for this model, Tokyo Marui went above and beyond in terms of realism and operation. Let's see what sets this revolver apart. Naval Battle Cylinder Scene : The engraved cylinder, depicting the 1843 Battle of Campeche between the Texan and Mexican navies, was a notable decorative feature that also served to prevent counterfeiting. Loading Lever: The M1851 will reproduce the loading mechanism of the original weapon. This lever pushes the bullets inside the cylinder. It is also possible to load the BB's with using the lever. Percussion cap: to further enhance the realism of the M1851, brass (non-exploding) percussion caps have been added. The M1851 sits between the flintlock and the modern revolver. Fulminate percussion caps were placed on the cylinder to fire the bullets (called balls). Tokyo Marui wanted to fully replicate this feature. Naturally, this model will come with a hop-up mechanism to fine tune the shooting experience. This is a single action air revolver without safety features, just like the real thing. Firing is performed by cocking the hammer and depressing the trigger. The M1851 uses complex mechanisms for which Tokyo Marui has filed patents. More details will be published as they a released. Stay tuned for pricing reveal and pre-order information. SG553+ Tokyo Marui is reviving the glorious days of the Swiss Army rifle with the upcoming release of the SG553+. Known for its deadly accuracy and its smart design, SIG assault rifles have been a staple of the Swiss Army for decades. Real steel trivia: The SIG 553 is a compact, high-performance assault rifle designed with the reliability and precision Swiss arms are known for. Based on the SIG 550 series, the 553 offers a shortened barrel and lighter frame, making it ideal for close-quarters and tactical operations. - "Why don't Tokyo Marui pistols come with a metal slide like other brands?" – Email question, Sept. 15th, 2024.
Frequently Asked Question: Tokyo Marui & Metal Slides In the world of airsoft, Tokyo Marui has long been a trusted name, synonymous with innovation, reliability, and precision engineering. Known for their gas blowback (GBB) pistols, Tokyo Marui sets itself apart by equipping many of its pistols with high-quality polymer slides rather than metal. At first glance, this may seem like a trade-off, especially to players who equate realism and durability with metal components. However, there are several compelling reasons why polymer slides are not only sufficient but also preferable for airsoft applications, particularly in the context of Tokyo Marui’s design philosophy. 1. The Impact of Japanese Regulations on Tokyo Marui Pistols Japan enforces some of the strictest regulations on airsoft guns in the world. By law, the muzzle energy of an airsoft gun cannot exceed 0.98 Joule. For context, this is much lower than what is commonly allowed in other countries where airsoft guns can exceed 2 or even 3 Joules in energy. As a result, Tokyo Marui pistols are not designed to handle high-powered gases or require heavy recoil springs like airsoft guns in other regions. Because of these restrictions, there is no need for Tokyo Marui pistols to have metal slides capable of handling the additional stress of high-powered gas or heavy recoil systems. Instead, polymer slides are more than capable of handling the lower pressures involved in operating these guns. In fact, using metal slides in this context can introduce unnecessary stress and complexity, which doesn’t translate into performance benefits but can result in issues down the line. Moreover, Tokyo Marui’s polymer slides are not just standard plastic but a carefully engineered high-density polymer, designed to offer the perfect balance of durability and lightness, suitable for the constraints of Japanese law. 2. Gas Efficiency One of the most significant advantages of a polymer slide over a metal slide is gas efficiency . In gas blowback (GBB) systems, every shot requires gas to cycle the slide and prepare the next shot. A polymer slide, being much lighter than metal, requires less energy to move back and forth. This means less gas is consumed with each shot, allowing for more shots per gas fill. Airsoft pistols with metal slides can look and feel more realistic, but they require more gas to cycle due to the heavier weight of the slide. This reduces the number of shots per gas fill and can lead to inefficiencies, especially during extended play. On a hot day, the difference may not be significant, but in cooler conditions where gas pressure decreases, this efficiency becomes crucial. 3. Faster Cycle Rate A lighter slide doesn’t just improve gas efficiency; it also enhances the cycle rate of the gun. When a shot is fired, the slide must recoil and return to its starting position to chamber the next round. A polymer slide moves faster because of its lower mass, resulting in quicker cycling times. This faster cycle rate translates to quicker follow-up shots, giving the player a noticeable edge in fast-paced airsoft skirmishes. The snappy, rapid cycling of Tokyo Marui pistols with polymer slides is a feature highly appreciated by airsoft enthusiasts who prioritize performance and responsiveness in high-stress scenarios. 4. Durability Many players, especially those new to airsoft, often assume that metal is inherently more durable than polymer. While this is true in certain contexts, it’s important to understand the specific design and use-case of Tokyo Marui’s polymer slides. Tokyo Marui pistols are engineered for durability within the operating conditions of airsoft, particularly within the constraints of Japanese laws. The polymer used in their slides is not a low-grade plastic, but a carefully selected high-density material designed to endure the wear and tear of regular airsoft use. It’s lightweight but tough, able to withstand impacts, drops, and extensive firing cycles without cracking or deforming. Also, you will notice that polymer slides don't scratch, blemish or lose paint as easily as metal slides, which is also a plus when it comes to the visual appeal of your pistol. Metal slides will start to show imperfections after only a few magazines, whereas polymer slides are much more durable. In contrast, poorly manufactured metal slides can be prone to cracking or denting, especially if they are made from lower-quality alloys. While well-made metal slides can be quite durable, they are also heavier and can introduce mechanical issues if the airsoft gun’s system is not perfectly balanced to handle the extra weight. Tokyo Marui’s polymer slides, in contrast, are optimized for their platform, ensuring smooth operation and long-term reliability. 5. Cold Weather Performance One of the more subtle yet important advantages of polymer slides is their performance in cold weather . Gas blowback systems are sensitive to temperature changes, and in colder conditions, the gas can cool down rapidly, reducing pressure and performance. This is known as the "cool-down effect." Because metal retains cold longer than polymer, airsoft pistols with metal slides are more prone to sluggish performance in cold environments. The heavier metal slide, combined with reduced gas pressure, can lead to slower cycling and even failure to function properly. On the other hand, polymer slides retain heat better and are less affected by temperature changes, making Tokyo Marui pistols more reliable in cold weather. 6. Realism vs. Performance Some airsoft players prefer metal slides for their realistic weight and feel , as it mimics the experience of handling a real firearm. There is no denying that a metal slide adds to the tactile experience of firing an airsoft gun, providing a heftier, more authentic feel. However, realism comes at the cost of performance in this case. For players focused on gameplay, gas efficiency, and responsiveness, the benefits of a polymer slide often outweigh the desire for realism. Tokyo Marui pistols are renowned for their out-of-the-box performance, and much of that performance comes from the thoughtful inclusion of lightweight polymer slides that enhance reliability and efficiency during skirmishes. 7. Weight and Maneuverability The weight of a polymer slide significantly contributes to the overall maneuverability of Tokyo Marui pistols. During airsoft matches, where speed and agility are paramount, a lighter pistol can make a noticeable difference. Players who engage in fast-paced, close-quarters battles (CQB) often favor lighter guns because they can be drawn faster, aimed more easily, and carried for long periods without fatigue. Metal slides, while adding a realistic feel, can weigh down a pistol and make it less maneuverable. Tokyo Marui’s polymer slides keep the overall weight of the pistol manageable, making them ideal for extended play sessions where every fraction of a second counts. Conclusion Tokyo Marui’s choice to use polymer slides in many of its pistols is not a compromise but a carefully considered design decision. Their high-quality polymer slides provide better gas efficiency, faster cycle rates, excellent cold weather performance, and enhanced durability in typical airsoft conditions. For airsoft players who prioritize performance and reliability, especially in skirmishes, Tokyo Marui’s polymer slides deliver superior results compared to heavier metal alternatives. While metal slides may offer a more realistic feel, Tokyo Marui pistols with polymer slides excel where it counts: in the heat of the game. Their lightweight design, coupled with precision engineering, makes them the ideal choice for airsoft enthusiasts looking for top-tier performance, reliability, and longevity.
