At the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2026, Tokyo Marui has officially unveiled one of the most anticipated gas blowback rifles in recent memory: the Type 20 Gas Blowback Rifle.
For years, the real Type 20 rifle developed by Howa Machinery, Ltd. felt almost untouchable outside Japan. Unlike AR-pattern rifles, SCARs, or HK platforms that became globally available through military contracts and civilian markets, the Type 20 remained uniquely Japanese — a modern service rifle rarely seen beyond JGSDF photos and defense exhibitions.

Recoil system faithfully reproduced, including spring winding count and white buffer
Plated bolt carrier uses a 20mm oval piston
Magazine is based on the Type 89 5.56mm rifle (fixed stock version)
